LUKIAN ART

PERSONAL AND SCIENTIFIC ILLUSTRATION

ABOUT ME

Originally from Belgium,  Lukian grew up in Bethesda, MD, where he still resides. Drawing has been a big part of his life, serving as a canvas for his vivid imagination. Growing up, his fascination with creating fantastical realms and characters was sparked by the enchanting worlds depicted in Miyazaki’s Ghibli films. While he initially explored traditional art mediums such as pen and pencil, Lukian has since embraced digital illustration, primarily utilizing software on his iPad. Nonetheless, he still finds solace in doodling on  his sketchpad, using it as a means to unwind and unleash his creativity.

During his life science studies at the University of Toronto, Lukian found that drawing helped him better understand complicated concepts. As a visual learner, he’d often sketch figures to aid with his studying. His knack for scientific visualization further developed when he began working at the NIH after graduating. There, he shared his artistic talents with his colleagues and began designing figures, graphical abstracts, and conference slides for his lab. Through this work, he developed an appreciation for communicating scientific findings and became passionate about making scientific information more accessible to everyone.

Now, with plans to pursue medical school, Lukian hopes to continue combining his love for art with science. He sees his drawings playing a crucial role in educating patients and making medical information easier to understand.
